5516 Modular Chassis (Figure 1). The Cisco NCS 5504 supports up to four line
cards, six switch fabric cards, two routing processors, two system controllers,
three fan trays, and four power supplies. The Cisco NCS 5508 supports up to 8
line cards, 6 switch fabric cards, 2 routing processors, 2 system controllers,
3 fan trays, and 8 power supplies. The Cisco NCS 5516 supports up to 16 line
cards, 6 switch fabric cards, 2 routing processors, 2 system controllers, 3 fan
trays, and 10 power supplies.
The NCS5500
router supports 10, 25, 40, 50, 100, and 400 Gigabit Ethernet ports. Cisco NCS
5504 supports up to 14.4 Tbit/s full duplex, NCS 5508 supports up to 28.8
Tbit/s full duplex, and Cisco NCS 5516 currently supports up to 57.6 Tbit/s
full duplex doing. With the introduction of the new NCS 5700 400 GE line card,
the forwarding capacity per slot in each modular chassis increases by 2.67x, up
to 153.6 Tbps full duplex on the Cisco NCS 5516. The Cisco NCS 5500 chassis
consists of the components shown in Figure 2 and described in the following
sections. Figure 2 shows the components of the Cisco NCS 5508 chassis. NCS 5504
and NCS 5516 use the same components except for chassis-specific fabric modules
and chassis-specific fan trays. Cisco NCS 5516 has 16 line cards and Cisco NCS
